So this was my kitchen when I moved in:

Hmmm. What does that look like?
IT LOOKS LIKE CHRISTMAS THREW UP ALL OVER MY KITCHEN.
Who in their right mind would look at a faux green and gray marbled laminate counter top (ew) and think “Clearly that wall needs to be CHRISTMAS RED.”
Awful.
I couldn’t stand that color for more than a day and a half. So I took a look at that counter top. I put the green and gray of the counter top, the nickel pulls, and all those white cabinets and back splash in my head and decided that wall needed to both coordinate and balance all that was going on.

I chose to offset all that white and go dark, go bold – go charcoal gray!

But because I’m me, and nothing can come without some kind of twist or surprise … I thought “charcoal gray” and my head pulled some idea that I had archived way back in there, and before the light bulb could even light up over my head I RAN to the hardware store.
What did I do? Here’s a clue:

Get it?
Instead of boring, flat charcoal gray paint … I went with super fun and interactive CHALKBOARD PAINT!

The whole wall cost me under $30 (paint, roller and tape), and will provide hours of fun over the duration of my lease.
Cheers!
What’s the most fun you’ve had with a home improvement?
