Productive. Finally.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been complaining (mostly to Hooker and Gary) that I’ve been in a creative slump for the past 6 months. I haven’t taken a single photograph that isn’t of my friends being silly (not to say I don’t enjoy those photographs, because I do. It’s just you can’t exactly consider a picture of Hooker with a corn penis “art”.)

And until last week, I hadn’t illustrated anything that wasn’t directly related to work (and even then I think I’ve done a total of two pieces). (The piece I drew on a whim last week)

But while I’ve been complaining (whining) that I haven’t done anything creative, I suddenly realized I haven’t done ANYTHING in months. Well anything productive at least.

My weekends consist of making group dinner, drinking, staying up late, listening/dancing to 80s music, sleeping in, making group breakfast, bumming around all day, and come night time, repeat.

Trust me, it is a lot of fun (a lot of fun), but it makes me feel like I have little to show in any area of my life.

So last week after I drew that piece (above) I started writing everything down. Stuff that I’ve produced design-wise, what I’ve eaten, any exercise I’ve gotten, errands I have to run.. I’m crazy, I know. But a week of writing it down kicked my ass into gear.

This week: I have sketched out redesigns for two websites I work on (including this one!) and nearly finished the redesign on one (in one night!). I have made a conscious effort to start taking more photographs (took over a hundred last night, none worth posting as I was really just working on light metering). I’ve started eating healthier, working out (usually when I say I’m ‘working out’ that means I did some sit ups or something one night and never again. This week I’ve worked out 3 times and even ran (RAN!) three miles last night. Well ran the first two at 9.5 minute mile and walked the last one.)

I have more energy, and even got up BEFORE my alarm twice this week. Being productive works for me. Or even if I’ve only done a few more things, seeing it on paper (proof) works for me.

This entry has nothing to do with anything else, other than I am psyched on my productiveness. Psyched me up more and tell me about your productiveness.

yes lunch buffet on sunday for the part timer.

Take her out to the North End. She’s been dropping hints left and right. And by hints she said “I want to go out for dinner in the North End on Saturday for my birthday.”

im so bad at boston i dont know if i could handle “goin to the north end” plus out to eat twice for one birthday is weak no?

pancakes pancakes, i also had to use more than 1c Oats because the batter seemed thin initially, but you can just wing it….this time dont mix the blubes in the blender even though the recipe says to…i also only use 1 egg yolk total and replace the others with 2 egg whites each, and i doubled the recipe as well:

6 egg whites
2 whole eggs
1 cup quick oats
1 Tbsp. cinnamon
1/2 cup chopped fresh or dried fruit (strawberries, blueberries or raisins work well)
3 packets Splenda or other sweetener
Nonstick cooking spray

Directions

Combine all ingredients except cooking spray in a blender. Spray a medium nonstick skillet with cooking spray and heat to medium-high. When the pan is hot, pour in half the batter. Cook on one side until the edges look done and batter bubbles in the middle, approximately three minutes. Then flip pancake and cook until no longer runny inside. Cook remaining batter the same way. Eat hot or at room temperature. Store in refrigerator in large resealable plastic bags or plastic wrap.

Jenny,

I’m going through a bit of an organizational crisis lately myself. I’ve found two things that are really cool that have helped me tremendously. Backpack and Basecamp. URL’s to follow:

http://www.backpackit.com

http://www.basecamphq.com

They’re both helping to make my life about a thousand times more managable, both professionally and personally speaking. Check em’ out!

Let me know if you like and wanna sign up. I get brownie points by giving you my referrer code, if you decide to.

Maybe I’ll get a sweet toaster or something. ;)
