Day Fifteen: Halfway Point

in Daily, NaBloPoMo

I’m used to posting nearly everyday. So even the weekend blogging for NaBloPoMo isn’t that hard. As long as I can sit my hungover* ass up on the couch long enough to click the submit button.

(*Actually that’s a lie. I very rarely get hungover. This actually annoys my good friend Anthony, king of hangovers, more than you will ever know. After a particularly vigorous night of drinking he will wait for me in the morning – begging, pleading even: “Are you hungover? Please tell me you are hungover.” I can feel the hate knives come out of his eyes and stab me as I sing “Nope!” and skip past him and grab a mug of coffee.

You do realize that by typing this, I will have the worst hangover I’ve ever had this weekend. That karma. She’s a bitch. And I’m probably due for a slap.)

So back to my point (did I have one? Sure I did. Sort of.): the blogging isn’t that hard. It’s all the extra blogs that I know are out there participating and I feel the need to read. Well. I actually don’t feel the need to read. I just click on the freakin randomizer and get sucked into a blogoholic binge.

And then after an hour, I am all blogged out and realized I have not read one single of my “regular” blogs yet that day and then weep as I reopen my browser to read those.

My eyes. They are dying. My wrist? damaged! Typing extra blogs, clicking that randomizer button. The rash! I’ve decided is an allergic reaction to, not my wrist brace, but BLOGS. My body is rejecting the idea of BLOGS. And yet? I CAN NOT STOP. I need more! Give me the blogs!

I myself will not stop blogging. Now I am invested. I’ve made it halfway. It’s actually become a nice habit to be in (which I actually think was the point of this whole thing).

But I’m curious – How are you all doing? Are you sick of blogs? Sick of blogging? Sick of reading? Are you quitting? Have you already quit? More importantly, have you found any good blogs through this thing? Have you found a blog nemesis? Discovered any good blog gossip? Found a blog we can all make fun of? Laugh at? Laugh with?

Do share.

I agree that it’s helping to create a good habit. I’ve always wanted to be a daily blogger, but real life gets in the way so often. Except, I shouldn’t think of it as getting in the way. I should think of it as blog fodder.

Well, we’ll see how long the good habit lasts after NaBloPoMo lasts.

My pal Dee never drinks, yet went on a bender last week and was wondering why she woke up shaking the next day *laugh*

I basically hate all the blogs that pop up in the randomizer. Hate them so much that I’ve stopped using it. I’m posting every day on my own, and reading my regular blogs. I’m counting on them to keep me abreast of anything I miss.

eg. Your tendonitised-ass finds a sweet blog that’s sweet and adds it to your links. then, I, months later, discover the update, decided to check it out, and voila – I too am reading. But without the damage to the eyes/wrist/clock/etc.

Also, to avoid hangovers I just stay up for two days straight. Sleep deprivation totally masks any hangover-type symptoms. Also, it’s good for the circulation.

all i have to say to that NaPOBLOMODINGSBUMS-thing is that it’s a lot harder to catch up when you can’t be online for a few days due to traveling and/or other life-changing events…

“hi” from indiana = probably one of the most boring states in the US (sorry IN, but…)

I feel like ever other blog I visit from that randomizer has a post up that says, “Screw it, I’m done with this blogging every day thing.” I’ve been loving it because I’ve needed something to get me back into blogging more regularly and now that I’ve made it halfway I feel like I can’t stop now!

And last night 2 hours flew by at the mercy of the randomizer. *sigh* I felt like falling into bed and passing out after that. Its exhausting, but I’ve found new blogs that I really like as a result. Like yours!

I hate the blomo randomizer with all my heart. I really do. I HEAR there are all these really interesting blogs participating in blomo this year, and yet the randomizer only shows me blogs about children/pets/children/pets.

I’m just hoping that, with everyone dropping out, I get a hand embroidered t-shirt or something.

I can only stand a handful as it is. I need to chuckle. I don’t read for enlightenment or whatever.

I think this whole thing is burning people out on blogs. Anyone else feel that way?

I don’t mind blogging every day. I usually save drafts whenever inspiration hits and post them later.

I’m with adina and tom…so many 30 year old mothers who use blogging as their only contact with the outside world…I can’t stand the randomizer. you can be a 30 year old blog mom…just don’t be so damn boring!

I just read links from good blogs. and any blog with the words ‘monkey’, ‘ninja’, or ‘pirate’ in the title. cause you can’t go wrong with those. ;)

i usually go by the visual impact first and i have seen some pretty blogs on the randomizer!
my own blog never popped up though, so you randomizer-haters can’t possibly talk about me… hehe, because a) i am not a mom, b) i don’t own pets and c) my blog is not boring [at least i hope so].

I too am hooked. I had to limit myself to five in the randomizer at work, otherwise I would easily spend 8 hours there. I’m trying to comment on some that I find, but many are *yawn*. Also, what’s up with all the knitters? I mean, no offense MOM (or any other knitters out there) but knitting is not that fascinating. And to discuss it? Like every day? Great! So you found a new pattern. Woo-friggin-hoo.

But I did find you, so it can’t be all bad!

I’m doing okay on the blog writing/reading front. I’m having trouble now and again to put as much into it as I feel I should, but I’ve discovered that blogging and commenting has become a great late night activity when you’re avoiding tomorrow for as long as possible :)

12 Stacey 11.15.2006 at 8:41 pm

Haha, that’s exactly how I feel, Jonathon! Blogging/commenting has always been a fun late-night activity, but NaBloPoMo has increased my addiction!

I think that the weekly stuff hasn’t been a problem for me, since I usually post every weekday anyways. However, I have to had to hit “pause” on some fun times over the weekends in order to post and I don’t love that.

I would have to agree.

At first, I was like, “Hey, this will be fun! And I’ll have a chance to rediscover my creative writing abilities.”

Then I remembered that I spend all day in a school with 24 energetic 6, 7, and 8-year-olds, only to run off after that to A) Grad School or B) My part-time retail job.

So by the time I get home, the last thing on my mind is typing. Some days it’s easier than others to think of a topic – on the tough days, I think about quitting. But I’m not a quitter.

As for reading the blogs of other participants – aside from those I already read – I think I picked up one new link for my blogroll.

So much to do – not nearly enough time. And I’m definitely out for late-night blogging. I need my beauty sleep!

RSS feeds, RSS feeds, RSS feeds. I’ve added a bunch of new blogs to my RSS reader, but I stuck all the ‘blomo blogs in one folder. Then I wait awhile, and read a couple days of each blog at once. So much easier.

15 Erin 11.16.2006 at 8:06 am

I’m actually enjoying it. And for the record, Samantha? I’m a 30 year old mom who has plenty of contact with the outside world. Not just via mah blog ;)

16 Samantha 11.16.2006 at 11:21 am

And you’re linked through some good blogs! I’m cool with it when the blogs aren’t boring…kids can be a frikkin’ riot. :)
