Too Busy To Think Of A Title

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that I think I have self-inflicted ADD. Maybe the potential for ADD has always been there, but now that I’m trying to launch like a gazillion different side projects/businesses, it’s definitely there in full force now.

I will not be satisfied unless I am doing 16 different things at once. Right now I am writing this entry, desiging mailing labels for work, booking a hotel, researching airfare, talking to my friend Bob (on IM) and my dad (on the phone). And I’m actually aggravated that my browser is being slow, because how dare it take more than one second to load? Jerk.

I used to know how to relax. I used to shut off when the clock struck five and enjoy a glass of wine and conversation with friends. I don’t know the last time I saw my friends after work.

Usually during the day I am working on no less than 3 work projects and 3 side projects simultaneously. I use my commute to balance my checkbook, or read the news, or reply to texts and voicemails. Once home, I eat in my kitchen alone standing up. Oh my god how sad do you feel for me right now? Yeah, but don’t. Because I just came up with another idea, or landed another freelance job and will finish it while you sleep tonight. SLEEP IS FOR THE WEAK.

Except I keep taking on more projects and getting less sleep and completely eliminating all downtime. Even on the weekends. And my short term memory has now gone to shit. I have to write everything down. I’m the dork standing in the corner at that party you were at last weekend. It’s cool though. I was jotting down strategies to TAKE OVER THE WORLD.

The past couple of nights I’ve had completely wasted commutes. I’ll start reading my book and 15 pages in, I’ll totally just fall asleep. And stay dead asleep until someone kicks me when we get to the last station. Well it’s more of a helpful nudge, but ‘kick’ just sounds delightfully dramatic.

So last night, I decided this napping on the train thing is probably a sign that I need to take it (a little) easier. And I did something so unlike me as of late: I went home and did nothing that had anything to do with any work ever.

I came home. Heated up leftovers. And ate them while lounging on the couch watching crappy tv! Then I decided to wrap my Christmas presents! While listening to holiday music! Then I took a shower. FOR THIRTY MINUTES. And spent the rest of my night eating guacamole in my bathrobe and watching Lost in Translation by candlelight.

It was the single most enjoyable evening I’ve had in at least six months.

Today, clearly I am back into my normal chaotic flow, but I feel energized and ready to take on 17 differnet things at once!

I took off the two days after Christmas, both so that I could use up the rest of my vacation time and to relax for a few days. Except when I originally said “relax” I really meant “work”. But after last night, I’ve decided that when I leave work on Friday, I am shutting off my brain and I am not going to think or work for the next FIVE DAYS.

Sunday is my birthday (you got 3 shopping days left) and I am spending the entire day in my sweatpants and my bathrobe. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME.

If you are my friend and you see me so much as thinking about using my brain, please slap me. My brain needs a vacation.

And oh yeah, tonight. I’m doing stuff to my hair. Early birthday present. Provided it comes out right, I’ll post pics tomorrow. And if I end up with a blue mullet, I’ll post them tonight because how funny would that be? (OMG Danielle if you give me a blue mullet, I’ll bitch slap you. With love.)

Being male and hence not very adept at multi-tasking, I don’t have this problem. Walking and talking simultaneously is about the extent of my context-switching capability.

why not a nice break for some potato chips? something handmade with a patented recipe. you know, just a thought.

I decided to leave the last commission that’s driving me crazy alone last night and instead mix the Low Red Land stuff. Grabbed a six pack and headed for the studio. It was pretty sweet. Then I looked at the clock and it suddenly said 2:30. So I’m paying for it now waking up at 11:30.

Oh well.

Tom, provided we both don’t get sprung early tomorrow, you’re on. You’ll experience the greatness.

You wrapped presents AND showered in one night? Sounds like a successfuly productive night to me. Add in “emptied the dishwasher” and I might as well have penned War and Peace.

I think you have the opposite of ADD. Someone with ADD would not be able to multi-task as well as you do without locking themselves in the bathroom for an hour while they tweeze they’re eyebrows almost completely off in a semi-catatonic state. Not that I… would know. uhh..

Tom, provided we both don’t get sprung

Why did i think of Sir Mix a Lot when i read that?

I like big butts and I can not lie
You other brothers can’t deny
That when a girl walks in with an itty bitty waist
And a round thing in your face
You get sprung, wanna pull out your tough
‘Cause you notice that butt was stuffed

happy birthday! if you decide you want to multitask tomorrow night by appearing at dinner and my sister’s party simultaneously, KUDOS TO YOU MY FRIEND, but if not, I hope you do get some time to relax :)

but tonight i did multitask by cooking, and ruining, three different party snacks simultaneously. while blogging. and drinking a vodka cocktail that was, honestly, probably a bit too strong.

Lazy evenings are the best. Sometimes crappy TV surprises you too – in the middle of the chat shows, reality TV and live poker channels, you sometimes bump into an old Audrey Hepburn movie…
