Without Trading Booze for Code

Oh hai. (If you don’t know what that “Oh Hai” is for, refresh your browser.)

It’s done. And I did it all myself. Not without pulling out more than a few hairs (like my new header suggests). But that pain in the ass loop? I kicked it’s complicated ass right out of my new theme and wrote a new one from scratch to get it to work.

WTF LOL. I didn’t even know I could do that!

So poke around. Check stuff out. There are many changes, but I’ll highlight the noticeable ones for you:

- No more illustrated header. I’ve been going all out with the headers since 2004. I took it easy this time. (Actually that’s a lie. In fact I created 13 headers. This is the one that I feel fits the page best – and give me lots of options for rotating in new text.)

- My nav bar: social networking madness. Need I say more?

- New Daily Photo category. (Thumbnail in the sidebar, click on it for the full photo.) I have so many photos that I do absolutely nothing with. And now, I will.

- New All Eyes On category (entry in the sidebar). Everyday I read graphic design, interior design, fashion design magazine, websites and more. I eat out at a lot of restaurants (I’m not a great cook). I find a lot of cool stuff that I want to link to, but not everyone is into that. So if you are, direct your eyes to the sidebar. If not, skip over it!

- The All Eyes Store. This goes hand in hand with the All Eyes On category. Use it for inspiration, or use the links to actually purchase the products! This is stuff I love and use myself and I pass it onto my friends all the time. Now I don’t have to send so many emails. Go get sassy.

I got into a discussion at brunch the other day about how with most people relying on RSS feeders, redesigns aren’t seen by most people. But the truth is, as much as the coding drives me mad, I’m a designer at heart. I love playing around with the way things look and feel. I’m constantly reorganizing my room, redecorating my office, tweaking that print invitation for work. It’s only natural that my website is one of those things.

Well WordPress and Dreamweaver. It’s been fun, but my work is done here.

….For now.

i love it! lots to look at but not overwhelming. AND i love that your links are not in a drop down menu anymore. yay! great job!

I know, those drop down were more annoying than anything!

Glad you love it! I do <3

Hey, what are you using for the flickr widget, I have their flash thing and it’s lame…

I used the flickr badge creater, but instead of doing the Flash Badge, I did 2 HTML ones (one on top of the other) which I tweaked to fit my design. The first is a horizontal, two photo, of the most recent photos. The second is a horizontal, two photo, of the photos I tagged with “Boston”.

Does that make sense?

Well that’s not completely fair … I started with a template… and ripped it apart and rewrote a good chunk of it. THAT’S more fair ;)
