How many people spell and/or grammar check each of their blog entries?

Good grammar is for geeks and pedophiles

I don’t use a spell-checker because I use too many made up words or inappropriate medleys of syllables. I DO, however, proof-read thoroughly before and after posting. I don’t mind blogging about dog poop but I don’t want my writing to be perceived as such.

Um, lessee…even though I’ve cheated and installed a plugin which creates a post each day out of my Twitter feed and therefore, not actually written a real post in probably 3 months…I’d say I definitely spell / grammar check when I *do* post.

Good grammar is also for the anal retentive. Like me.

I have a built-in spell-checker in my brain, because I am amazing. Though, I still can’t spell “rhyme” and “tentative” correctly without hesitation. See? A-MAZ-ING.

I definitely spell check. Grammar check… just the basics. It’s too hard for me to be conversational and follow strict grammar rules. U know what I’m sayin’?

Firefox “checks” my spelling for me, and I usually do a quick read through, but I don’t think about it much past that. It’s my silly blog and I think the occasional spell/grammar errors are endearing. And if you don’t, then we shouldn’t be friends. You’d hate the way I abbreviate everything anyway.

I do check and recheck my posts but sometimes I miss things and my love freaders let me know so I can change it.

I also do not run it through any kind of official check but Firefox checks my spelling for me and I proof read before and after I make each post.

always. mostly because i’m hilarious, so i entertain myself by rereading things i write and laughing heartily each time.

people need to spell/grammar-check their effing facebook statuses. the ‘is’ can and should be deleted if it’s not needed.

I can’t even send a text message without correct capitalization and punctuation. I think it’s an occupational side effect… or, I’m a freak.

Spell check- yes. I never learned to type properly so I am a queen of typos.

Grammar check- no. My grammar errors are all deliberate. Or I pretend that they are.

Safari does the spell check for me + I am a grammar Nazi = Yes.

13 Caitlin 4.29.2008 at 6:08 pm

PS – Please now go to my blog and examine it carefully for all the errors — because they are abundant, and I enjoy breaking my own rules.

I spell check, but grammer check – ummm. No. Again, like stated above, conversational and made up words but if I redlined my blog the way I redline a press release, oh hell I’d be in trouble.

This post is an unanticipated consequence of my need to be in control of the things around me. I pestered Jenny unnecessarily earlier today about an insignificant issue in a blog post.

I’m a freak about typos on a couple of my blogs and I let a lot go on the other one.

But I expect clients to pay me $100 an hour for my copywriting and editing skills. And if they bumble along to one of my sites and see that I misspell their and misuse your and you’re, and can’t figure out grammar and spelling issues, I’ll soon be destitute.

Sorry for the fervor and furor over my nitpicking. Won’t happen again.

Jeff
*NO, I’m not giving any links today. You’d all rush over and pull my posts apart.

16 Jenny 4.29.2008 at 8:25 pm

Well my readers have now gained two pieces of knowledge: 1.) I’m NOT a professional writer (thankfully, or I’d have some pissed clients) and 2.) what Jeff makes.

Seeing as I got a degree in journalism, wouldn’t I be wasting a valuable education (and skill set) if I didn’t?

I check while writing and after, often going back a few times to fix any errors because if I don’t, it’ll drive. me. CRAZY!

18 Accidentally Me 4.29.2008 at 10:25 pm

Worse…I write them in Word because the spellcheck and grammar check is better than blogger. Then I paste them into Blogger.

Dork.

spell check = check. another reason i love WP! grammar check, so not much.

but i figure since i’m german i get away with grammar mistakes ;) right?

20 natalie 4.30.2008 at 7:14 am

i do…but then every time i go back i find something else is wrong, you know? :-(

21 Jenny 4.30.2008 at 7:54 am

NATALIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(PS your new house is GORGEOUS. Yes I stalk.)

22 AmyD 4.30.2008 at 10:09 am

Uh…doesn’t EVERYBODY?!

I wish we could do the same for comments, frankly. Yes, even THIS ONE. ;o)

23 Jenny 4.30.2008 at 10:41 am

I find spelling/grammar mistakes on plenty of blogs (including my own). I just don’t badger people about it because quite frankly, as long as I understand it, I really don’t care. Who gets that worked up over blog entries? YOU’RE ONLY HURTING YOURSELF!

24 Erin 4.30.2008 at 10:42 am

I definitely spell check and read and re-read my posts manically. Then I make Chris read them. And 25 minutes after posting I inevitably find a spelling error. It’s totally a futile effort.

25 Ulli 4.30.2008 at 12:33 pm

Uhm.

Rarely.

I am the typo queen.

26 Jenny 4.30.2008 at 12:42 pm

And it’s all part of your charm, darling.

27 Jenny H 4.30.2008 at 2:48 pm

I type it up really fast, click publish and then think to myself… Crap, I really should’ve spell/grammar checked that. Oh well.

28 Jenny M 5.4.2008 at 12:03 am

My philosophy is, I would never dream of spell checking my hadn written journal, why torture myself and do it to my typed journal?

Better with all the boo boos
