So on the glasses update: I am keeping them. Well not my stupid broken ones, but the general “me wearing glasses” thing. You knew I would – I have contacts, I wear contacts, but I usually reserve them for a.) working out b.) nights out on the town when I feel like doing eye makeup.

I have severely dry eyes which makes it really uncomfortable to wear contacts for extended periods of time. And not like “Hey let me use some eyedrops and fix that right up.” No, no. Like when I went in for the dry eye test my ophthalmologist quite literally said I have the driest eyes she’s ever seen. Which I confirmed about five seconds later when the contact I had in FUSED itself to my cornea.

Now you know entirely too much about my EYEBALLS. Moving on.

Anyway, I shopped around a little yesterday, glasses shop managers laughing at me every step of the way. “What about these ones Jenny?” “Oh I don’t know, maybe? I’D GLADLY WEIGH IN BUT I CAN’T SEE THEM FROM HERE WITH MY LACK OF GLASSES AND ALL.” And then I’d hold a loose lens up to my eye and squint.

(Seriously guys. You know you want this.)

For the past few months I had been hooked on a pair of Pradas. They are the perfect color, the perfect shape, but still there was something just a little off about them that kept me from buying. And that thing is stupid crystals on the sides. Hello. I am 28 years old. I do not want sparklies on the side of my face. I don’t care if they are designer sparklies.

I was hooked on Prada, that is, until yesterday. And I fell in love with a new line of eyewear: Salt. (And not just because I love their site or their use of Interstate typeface which I’ve been obsessed with for the past 6 months or so.)

I’ve decided this go ’round I’m going with two pairs: a plastic funky frame and also a metal frame similar to what I have now. That way I won’t wear out a single pair to the point where it breaks while I’m driving and also to give me a little variety.

On the plastic side I’m torn between so many:

And then of course these which I’d like to get to replace my current metal frames (and yes I asked: they are sturdier and crafted better than my current pair):

(gunmetal?)

(stay with my standard black?)

Needless to say, it’s official. I’m getting psyched about glasses again.

I need new glasses. I’ll be going to my optometrist in the next couple of months for my check-up and to get a new prescription. I hope I get to have half as much fun as you’re having picking out glasses!

People who wear glasses rock.

I’m new to the club, and thus completely unbiased.

Also, your credibility as a designer triples once you wear glasses. I’m not sure why, but I’m yet to meet a good designer who doesn’t.

i love the last pair. they’re kind of like a modernized lisa loeb cat-eye look. the 2nd plastic pair is a very close 2nd.

of the metal pair, i think the standard black is the best of the two.

Hi I’ve been reading your site for a while now but I finally have something to comment on or rather a suggestion. What about these http://eyeglasses.go-optic.com/framelarge.asp?id=24434&cat=DFRAMES&div=4

They’re DKNY model DY 4556 in Striped Dark Green/Ice but they actually look more black than green.

I bought this pair over the summer and I love them, and I get a lot of compliments on them. They cost me and arm and a leg but it was worth it. I got them at lenscrafters.

Just one more thing to ponder. Did your opthamologist do any tests like stick paper in your eyes to test your tear enzymes? Because really really dry eyes are OFTEN caused by a little known strange auto-immune disorder called Sjogrens, and that would mean that your dry eyes have a missing tear enzyme. Sjogrens is a kind of arthritis, it’s really a non-worrying issue, a large percentage of women over 30 have it and never know it, but the dry eyes thing… that’s the big clue.

Next time you hit your primary care doctor, ask him to check. It’s just a blood test, and then you’ll know that your dry eyes aren’t going to be helped by artificial tears or other drops. There is one gooey gluey stuff that you can put in your lower lid at night, but ugh…gooey.

I like the pair with the black on top and clear on the bottom. Very cool, and I think they would look good on you. Also think the gunmetal is a decent color for your skin tone and hair. Black might be too dark. But then again, I wear gunmetal and I happen to like them a lot.

M: I did get that! And a weird drop test that turned my entire eye yellow – I looked AWFUL. Part of the problem was actually, believe it or not, my BCPs. They adjusted my prescription a few years ago and that helped a little.

Sonya: those are REALLY cute. I’ll have to find them and try them out!

I like the gunmetal!!
I just went through the painful process of buying new glasses too. I also don’t quite understand how I am expected to pick out new glasses when as soon as I take off my old glasses, the world shifts into this blurry mess of shapes and colors.

This post makes me really happy because I kind of really heart glasses and it’s been way too long since I got a new pair and so I love to see a gal who loves glasses and is excited about them.

I need to hop on this train and get some myself. I think I will also be trying on many pairs and making an ass of myself. Of course this will be a little easier for me as the lens on my glasses usually stays in and they’re not actually fully broken yet. Also, I’m not as blind as you, I really only need them to read and drive and go to the movies (all important things!) Good luck, can’t wait to see what you pick.

Oops, also, I’m literally a moron. I don’t need my glasses to read. Read was supposed to say WATCH TV. Does my brain now think watching tv counts as reading? Because that makes me cry.
