So have you ever seen someone doing pull ups with a resistance band? In an effort to do real pull ups, I’ve stopped relying on the counterweight machine to do pull ups and have started hooking one of these on to a pull up bar:

You step into the band and do pull ups the “real way”.
Still can’t picture it? Well I found uh … this:

Well let’s pretend that there I am, doing my pull ups. And my trainer says “Make sure to pay attention to ….” which automatically means I’m ONLY paying attention to that ONE thing and forget that my feet need to, oh you know, STAY FLAT TO KEEP THE BAND THERE?
In pretend world that would mean that the resistance band would roll out from under my sneakers and smack me and my trainer.
Actually. That’s what it means in the real world too.
OUCH. And also EW.
But damned if I didn’t bang out two more sets. I’m going to do an unassisted pull up if it kills me. And, after yesterday, I think it just might.

LOOOL
Sorry. Slipped out. But still, OUCH, that does look painful :(
NICE.
Too bad I picked out a super cute SLEEVELESS outfit for this weekend. Guess it’s going to have to hang out on the hanger for a couple more weeks.
THAT is why resistance bands scare me so much. I hate them. HATE them. (that and when i have to put them around my ankle they pinch my skin and it hurts…what can i say- i’m a delicate flower)
My bruise covering makeup services are available for a nominal fee

Omg I made a horrible joke and asked if Rhianna had a line of body make up out yet.
I am a bad person.
I used to use resistance bands when I trained for tennis. We had around-the waist harnesses.. so one person would lean back and the other would lean forward and try to pull the other person. Well… something on one of the metal hooks popped loose once. It felt like getting popped with a GIANT slingshot.
In summary, I feel your pain!
That would definitely happen to me. Except I loves me some coumadin, so my bruise would be twice as big, three times as ugly, and would last about 3 months (no joke-there is still a small lump on my shin from a Christmas bruise).
Ouch. That does look like it would have hurt. Don’t give up on the resistance band training though!
Kristen – You want to get the flat bands instead of tubular bands, they shouldn’t pinch your ankles as much.
I definitely won’t David! I use them all the time – I like not using a machine to do everything!
WOW…that’s a bruise!!!
Congrats on the pull ups. They are crazy hard. I’m nowhere close to doing them. With the assistance of the band, that’s very CrossFit of you! Keep it up!
David- good tip thanks! I’ll have to look for those.
Wow, that is insane!! 1) that you actually are doing this exercise with a piece of banding and 2) that you got yourself that fat bruise!! That’s painful looking!!
OW!
