I’ve got a few updates to make based on the past few blog posts I’ve written.
First and foremost, as of today Sasky is still in the hospital. I’ve been chatting on and off with her husband (of the year) T. – it’s been days since she’s had a seizure, and the headaches that she’s been suffering from seem to have all but disappeared. According to T, she’s due for an MRI today and the results of that will let us all know how much longer she’ll be in the hospital. The medical speak of it all boils down to the simple fact that things are looking up.
I saw her on Monday. I didn’t expect to be so emotional (after the fact of course. I held it together in the hospital.) I’ve spent hours, upon hours, upon hours in the hospital with Danielle. But there, I knew the doctors, they knew me. I knew what all the medical speak meant and could interpret the jargon. I knew that “Tomorrow its looking like IVIG” meant Danielle’s platelets were down, she’d be hooked up to an IV of this for a few hours, that would make her sick as hell, and when it was over her platelet count would skyrocket, buying them time until they figured out the next step. Danielle and I were the ones cracking the cancer jokes while every one else just stared at us, wide eyed and confused and upset.
When I saw Sasky in the bed, head covered in electrodes, tired, a little out of it, from the medicine – it was weird. Being in the hospital with Danielle visiting someone that’s not Danielle. And then she rolled from her side to her back and, I’m trying to be as eloquent as I can be here, I was all of a sudden hit with the fact “Holy shit. This isn’t just about you. There’s a baby in there. You’re going to be a mother.” It was the first time I’ve seen her since she started showing. She’s the first of our core group of childhood friends who’s been pregnant. That in itself is an emotional thing to see, much less to see it for the first time sitting in a hospital bed covered in padding just in case another seizure happens.
But back to the happy part, she’s doing better. I actually just this second got word from T. that she was taken for her MRI. So now we … just wait.
On to something that doesn’t make me want to bite my fingernails down to the bone, an update on the less emotional, more ridiculous Match front. I never heard from that dude again (obviously), but after a couple of tweets sent out by friends who read my update, I did hear from Match. Ha yeah. Oh the power of Twitter.
Let’s see other notes/news: Tonight I’m heading downtown for a brand marketing party then I’m Allston-bound for a good bye party. Tomorrow morning I’m hopping in my car and heading west to “Noho” (Northampton, MA) for the wedding of my oldest friend in the world – Meaghan. I’ll be out that way until Sunday – which looks like it’s full already too. Pool party at the Shane estate, followed by an early dinner with my favorite visitor from Houston?
I’m tired already.
Oh and if that’s not enough, Monday is the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Jimmy Fund Golf Tournament – and, like every year, I’ve done all of the flyer and signage design and production. I’m only mentioning this because if you’re local, you need to use the guy I used to print. He does everything from vinyl banners, to boat and truck lettering, to drum heads, to business signs, to door decals, to … well you get the idea. His name is Marc Beaupre, his website is http://mbgraphics.biz, and he is quick (uh..2 days for four 2′x8′ vinyl banners with 20-30 sponsors names on each?! Nuts!) and he is – most importantly – affordable. Oh yeah and his stuff looks great.
So I guess that’s all y’all.
