Hot Potato (Chips)!

I am by nature a ‘healthy’ eater. As a child I would choose snacking on broccoli over cookies, or candy or chocolate. I actually did not like those things.

!!!

It’s true. Ask my mother. I was, and still am, a freak of nature. To this day I still believe that chocolate cake is the most digusting thing ever. Well besides ketchup (vomit) and mushrooms (double vomit).

If asked my favorite foods, avocados, asparagus and mangos top the list. But somewhere in that top ten, there would be a very enthusiastic looking “FRENCH FRIES! OR CHIPS! OR BOTH!”. In fact, it would probably be in two spots. Maybe even three, I like them SO MUCH.

I’m always on the look out for a good french fry. And I am so not talking about fast food french fries (a la Wendys, Burger King or McDonalds. I actually couldn’t tell you the last time I had any of those. Years … five maybe. Whatever. Doesn’t matter. But those aren’t fries.).

Now I’m going to let you in on a litle secret: recently I discovered THE BEST FRENCH FRIES AND POTATO CHIPS. Ever.

You can find them at the Intermission Tavern on Tremont Street in Boston’s Theatre District.

Both the chips and fries are homemade and I heard a rumor that the recipes for both can not be made and sold within a 5 mile radius of the restaurant. Although I can’t find anything on the web to confirm this, but if it’s not true it should be. Have you ever had hot, freshly made potato chips? HOLY CRAP. I would keep this recipe secret for TEN miles.

So coming from a huge french fry fan, and somewhat of a (self-proclaimed) connoisseur, get yourself down to the Intermission Tavern and make like me and my friend Bob did last night and order a plate of fries AND a plate of chips. They have an amazing martini menu too (pomegranate martinis, mojito martinis …..) but who can think about martinis when you have a plate of hot homemade fries and chips waiting for you?

Skinny? Healthy? It was nice knowing you two, but step aside. I have a new friend now.

Tom read my mind. Sweet potato fries, when prepared well and served with honey mustard dipping sauce, could truly be The Best Thing Ever.

I won’t walk into a McDonalds for ethical reasons any more (you’ve read the articles about their business practices, right?)

We have “chip shops” in the UK, who’s main business is selling the hand made fries you are talking about.

English schools with a canteen have recently been “encouraged” by the government not to serve fries more than once a week any more to avoid a generation of obese kids…

I love Intermission! Sweetwater in the Alley has excellent home-made chips as well – I’d dare say, better than IT. And, if you’re looking to catch a hooker fight, a fist fight, a cheap beer, or a 50+ year old perv hitting on you, I suggest you drink at the Tam. Oh, how I miss it down there!

Dude. In-N-Out fries suck. Please, don’t even respond. You’ll probably hurt yourself trying to use the keyboard a second time.
