Wordpress Hacks/Plugins
Posted by Jenny on 02/18/08 in Talk Shop
I want to find a way to do larger photographs in single entries on Wordpress. I’m sick of being confined to portrait-oriented photographs for my Daily Photo category - they’re so limiting. I want to be able to post landscape photos sized to fit in that div for my main loop and category archives page (and not mess up my sidebars), but when you click on the single entry you see a much larger version of that photograph that spans the entire container and moves the sidebar down below it.
Am I typing this in a way that makes sense? I’ve seen it done on Wordpress themes, have tried to google it and search the forums with no luck, and the people who have figured it out aren’t giving up the info other than to say they’ve used a hack and it exists….. Grrr.
Anyone?

Are you treating the photos beforehand with Pshop or are you putting them up right from the camera?
I’m not sure if I can help with a plug-in because I guess I do a manual work-around. And when you click on my shots they just open in a new window (but all shots have been knocked down in size so they load quickly).
I’ll let you know if I figure it out. I’m just hanging out today and tomorrow, so I’m going to play with a new template for BOC and I’m looking at new Widgets and plug-ins.

I never put photos right up from the camera .. for a few reasons, one being that they are GIGANTIC right off my camera.
I just discovered that Jon from http://blurbomat.com does EXACTLY what I’m looking to do. But hasn’t said what he used.

OK. His site MIGHT do what you want but it might not. If you notice, each photo is the very FIRST thing in the entries…even before the title. Therefore, when you click on the photo it’s just like clicking on the title line in your blog or mine and it just opens it in its own page without side bar in the way. Go ahead and click on the title of any of your entries or any on Bowl of Cheese. The default is to open in a new spot.
If you want to do that, you can’t have posts with more than one photo (unless they’re all stacked before the blog post title) and you can’t have any text BEFORE the photos.
I’ll keep looking. You too.

OK. I was slightly wrong. Your site keeps the sidebar, mine doesn’t.
Click on over to http://bowlofcheese.com/ and then click on “Because I Can” today’s entry. You’ll see what I mean.
Maybe we should be doing this via email. Sorry to clog up your comments.
Happy President’s Day.

Maybe he does what you’re looking for. A few months ago he even wrote about it. I can’t find the entry, and have to go to the Shaw’s now because OMG-it’s-snowing we’reallgonnadie!! and I don’t have any bread or milk in my house.
He’s nice about e-mail too, maybe just ask him.
