22 Words That Are Fun To Say*
Posted by Jenny on 03/5/08 in Daily
Once I did a list of the grossest words to say, now I’m countering that with fun words to say:
Onomatopoeia**
Cacology
Nuance
Undulate
Symposium
Loquacious
Facetious
Phlebotomist
Superfluous
Trabajabamos** (Yeah I know it’s Spanish, but it still applies.)
Nefarious
Abominable
Discombobulate
Disingenuous
Lackadaisical
Archipelago
Guacamole … closely followed by …
Avocado
Oblivion
Usurp
Plethora
and finally, for Sarah,
Shank
Make your afternoon more fun and say that whole list outloud. Don’t forget to leave me your faves!
* This list was originally 20 words, but then I realized I listed two words (marked with a **) in my original entry and felt I needed to give you 20 in addition to the two I’ve already given you in the past.

SHANK <3
I also love:
Insidious
Flagrant
Behemoth
My sixth grade reading teacher used to say that the most beautiful word in the English Language is “Cellar Door”. Even though this is, in fact, 2 words. It’s also fun to say.

Did you know the real definition of facetious?
1. [After L. facetus.] Of style, manners, etc.: Polished and agreeable, urbane. Obs.
2. Characterized by, or addicted to, pleasantry; jocose, jocular, waggish. Formerly often with laudatory sense: Witty, humorous, amusing; also, gay, sprightly. a. of utterances, compositions, actions, etc.
b. of persons, their qualities, etc
I always thought it meant two-faced. But I guess only in the sense that it’s “mannerly” to talk about people behind their back.

I love your list! Someone once told me that “sycamore” was one of the most beautiful words to say. I think that’s pretty accurate, although I like “pseudo” and “seagirt,” as well. :)
