“Wear pants and flats on Thursday please.”

Last week we got an email from HR that read:

“There will be a fire drill on Thursday. Please remember to wear comfortable and safe foot wear and avoid wearing any clothing with long flowing material or straps.”

This is just laughable on so many levels. Mostly because it implies that a.) on any other work day if there were an actual fire, most of us would die due to our clothing and shoe choices b.) they don’t want any workers comp claims coming out of a required fire drill.

Isn’t part of the drill’s value in its surprise? I think they let that go out the window…

I am on the 38th floor…if there is a fire, I am basically screwed.

    You would think!

Well I think nowadays they have to notify people ahead of time to avoid getting sued for other reasons but the shoe and clothing recommendations are really funny. Also, really, how impractical can people’s shoe/clothing choices be? I mean, do you work on the 50th floor? There aren’t too many skyscrapers in Boston. I would hope most people can manage a few flights of stairs in the shoes they wear to walk around the office all day long.
