MBTA Lesson #1043: What you see is definitely not what you get.

All I wanted was to ride from the Harvard Square area to the Mass Ave/Newbury stop on the #1 bus. Easy! Simple!
I showed up at the bus stop at 1:19 pm. The bus schedule says the bus runs every 14 minutes (SEE?). So even assuming the schedule was a little off and my 14 minutes started right then, I should have been on a bus at the latest by 1:33 pm. SIMPLE MATH, no?
Well the MBTA must have some kind of new math that they are using because the next bus came at 2:01 pm. FORTY TWO MINUTES LATER. According to the schedule ON THEIR SITE, in that time FOUR buses should have come.
The best part? Two buses came at the exact same time. What kind of wacky crap is that?
Bus# 2276? Thank you for this very annoying, inconvenient lesson. I’m sure my boss really appreciated me learning it today on her time.
The only good thing to come out of it? I saw a KILLER rat tail on some kid: braided, with a bead at the end, went to his butt. NO LIE.

It gets better. Once I waited for 30 minutes for the #1 bus, only to have it DRIVE PAST THE STOP and not pick me up. It was GREAT [sarcastic thumbs up].
But once on it, it is convenient.

If the weather’s nice, I always just walk across the bridge. I’m sure it’s a different story if you’re trying to get to work though.

I have seen so many guys with rat tails lately. I have just one question.. WHY??

Please, please, please go to MBTA.com (http://mbta.com/customer_support/on_time_service_guarantee/) and register for a free fare. Feeling some financial heat is the only way they’ll ever change. Any wait longer than 30 minutes qualifies.

Could the date in question you waited so long have to do with Harvard Graduation ceremonies held recently , a wait of 42 minutes seems excessive even for the # 1 bus.

I only realized it right just now - but I think that “rattail” could very well be my least favourite word in the English language.
