A Fabulous Weekend

I spent the majority of this weekend working, either on Jimmy Fund related things (oh hai, donate plz) or at a photoshoot. I did however manage to fit in drinks with my former, fabulous boss over at Bouchee on Friday and an event over at the Samson Projects on Saturday.

I only have photos of Saturday. So that’s the one you will hear about/see. Plus the Friday night drinks were too gossipy for you all to handle!

The Saturday night event was part of the It’s Pop It’s Art US Tour, and was run by my good friend Steve’s music promotion and management company Pirate!. It also happened to be deliciously sponsored by Black Swan Wines (and WOW did those sponsors pour a full glass).

Steve invited me last week, and I decided to drag Miss Fabulous along with me.

We dressed up, we drank wine, we looked at some (really cool) art, we networked and hung out. And then we left and had a romantic dinner date among the gays in the South End, followed by some running-around-the-city antics, and finally settling in at Cuffs, the bar at Jurys Hotel.

A few photos from the evening:

So there you go. My night in pics. Well the blog-approved ones at least. Also, I’m sorry but how CUTE are my t-strap sandals? They got cut off in that head to toe photo, and I think deserved another link. Of course while looking to link them, I found them for cheap ($49!!) on Overstock right now.

So enough about me, what did you do?

08.08.08

I love that date.

Today is Friday. I have worked basically double work days every day this week (regular work, then Jimmy Fund stuff). Oh and last night, the following happened:

I woke up at 1:13 am because the high school boy who lives next door to me was trying really hard to break up with his high school girlfriend. She wouldn’t let him. So he started screaming. Then it started raining. HARD. And lightening. A LOT. And thundering. REAL LOUD.

I thought the world was ending.

Then something happened. We assume the house a few down from my apartment got struck by lightening? Or maybe it was just a weird fire coincidence. Either way my street got closed off. Four fire trucks, one rescue truck, an ambulance and a bunch of cop cars sirened their way into my neighborhood and stuck around fixing the situation until …. lord knows when.

Fire in Dorchester

During this, all the nosy neighbors made camp on my front porch. And stayed there. Until ….. well last I looked it was 4:00 am.

So today, my brain is fried. Luckily my friend Mike (Who made the blog? YOU made the blog!) introduced me to Cyber Rentals. A group of us have been swapping links back and forth half-joking, half-serious about renting a castle in Vegas, or a villa Thailand, or something as equally amazing.

Seriously. Go look at this and try to go back to your regularly scheduled work day.

Yeah. Give it a few clicks, you’ll be addicted and crunching numbers in no time too.

Cute dress? More like fug mess.

Saw this last night at Lord & Taylor. I picked it up off the rack and announced to all the women in the dress department (we were all
friends by now) that A) it looked like a wedding cake and B) somewhere some girl bought this dress and all her dirty parts were hanging out
uncovered and exposed. (Seriously it was SHORT!)

I don’t think I got that great of a response out of a crowd since … Well ever.

Nothing brings a group of women together quite like making fun of heinous fashion. Turns out throwing in the phrase “trashy whore” doesn’t hurt either.

PS. That dress? $200.

Thanks Mashable crew. That was one heck of a party.

Last night, business cards in hand, I headed over to The Roxy for Mashable’s SummerMash Boston. (Wow, enough links for you? Don’t worry this party hasn’t even STARTED yet.)

I revisited with some old friends, caught up with some new ones, and, best of all, met a number of new, fantastic people. (”What, no links in that sentence?” you say. OH JUST YOU WAIT.)

Wait for it ….

Wait for it ….

Here’s a bunch of super great people I chatted with last night:

Pete from Mashable (*swoon* I told him last night that I posted a pic of the two of us and said he was my boyfriend. I think I scared him with my screwed up brand of humor. Sorry Pete. I’d be scared too.), Ariel Diaz from YouCastr, Karen Hartline and Brett Petersel also from Mashable, Rebecca Corliss and Amanda Gravel from Shift Communications (Amanda, who by the way, won the pass to SXSW Interactive that I wanted. Lucky!), Saul Colt from Freshbooks (who was SO hilarious I couldn’t even stand it), Sooz (who’s pictures I can’t WAIT to see!), Laura Fitton aka Pistachio from Pistachio Consulting, Marcel Moreau, Will Pate from VenCorps (who had on the best shirt last night!), Erica O’Grady from Peanut Butter Media, Gradon Tripp, Jen Myronuk, Christine Perkett and Lisa Dilg from Perkett PR, Liz Page (finally!), Joe Casico (again!), Dana Zemack from ZemackPR (I missed her!), …. and many others who I’m sure I’m forgetting but certainly don’t mean to.

Here’s hoping they all remember me as a classy broad they’d like to associate with much more in the future …. and not some chick throwing back free tequila who forced everyone who was still at the Roxy at 11:00 pm to go to sing karaoke with a big loveable drag queen - even if I was totally that girl too. (Yup when the party was over I dragged everyone over to Jacques Cabaret for some TechKaraoke Boston.)

Ok. I think I’ve supplied you all with enough links to get you through the winter. While you work on those, feel free to enjoy some pics from last night …

Let’s Talk Podcasts

If you follow me on Twitter, you’d know that I recently joined a new gym (that I can’t shut up about). Here’s what makes me a weird gym go-er: I do not listen to music when I work out. I can’t. When I listen to music I tend to count the songs, and add up my time, and just focus way too much on how long I’ve been there. Actually over the past year or so, the amount that I listen to music has dwindled down to - practically nothing.

Instead I listen to Podcasts. Lots and lots and LOTS of podcasts: at the gym (obviously), on my commute into work, during work, on my way home …. you get the picture.

I have a number of Podcasts that I subscribe to, but some of my favorites (that I bring with me everywhere on my iPod) are:

My favorite podcasts

Ok I won’t make you try to read that horribly blurry picture of my iPod. Here’s the list:

This American Life
This is my favorite show of all time. I’ve been listening on NPR for what seems like forever, and loved when they started offering free podcast downloads. Plus, I am not ashamed to admit this, I have a huge crush on Ira Glass. When the tv show came out on Showtime I did download it (through iTunes), but - I can’t explain it - it’s just not the same.

Dan Savage’s Lovecast
Dan Savage is a writer, a podcaster, a father, a sex columnist, and just plain hilarious. I love this podcast because it’s just so …. Dan. Go listen. You will laugh and you might even learn something about bondage or how to ask out a dude … or both.

The M Show
I’ve mentioned it before on my blog: The M Show is John Wall’s podcast. It is timed perfectly for my walk to or from from the subway in 10-15 minute chunks. It’s one of those podcast where you feel like you’re having a conversation with your friend in that one minute you’ll be talking about the latest must-have gadgets, and the next minute you are laughing out loud because “Um, did John just say he grabbed a soccer mom out of her mini van in an attempt to car jack her and then she beat him up? Ohhhhh right. Grand Theft Auto.” (Yeah I actually did laugh out loud at that. Except I was NOT alone walking home. I was on a crowded rush hour train. I was THAT girl. Thanks John.)

Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me: The NPR News Quiz
If you don’t listen to this radio show/podcast, you are SO missing out. It’s current news, it’s a quiz, it has hilarious contestants and of course, it’s got Carl Kassel. (Oh MAN I want his voice on my answering machine!)

Marketing Over Coffee
This is another one of John Wall’s podcasts that he records with Christopher Penn. This one is packed with good information (about - get this - all things MARKETING) that is talked about in a really simple, conversational way. My favorite part is hearing the caller questions and knowing the person who called in. Ok maybe that’s not my favorite part, but it makes me feel special.

I have a few others that I listen to (mostly language learning podcasts), but those are my top 5. All of the above links will take you to the individual person/show’s webpage where you can download the podcasts each week - or do what I do and subscribe to them on iTunes!

Now it’s your turn - what are your favorite podcasts? What should I be listening to?
